Essay Winners are Fire Chief for a Day

Third Grade students in the Rye Elementary School were asked to compete in an annual essay contest about why they wanted to be the Rye Fire Protection District (RFPD) Fire Chief for a Day.

According to Edmunds.com 1.9% of all new vehicle purchases in 2021 were Electric Vehicles (EVs). With the increased costs of gas, more are expected to be sold this year in spite of supply issues and an average transaction price for a new EV of $60,054 in February.

SIEA Selects Elarton for GM and CEO Positions

San Isabel Electric’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce Ryan Elarton has been selected as General Manager (GM) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Elarton has been acting Interim GM and CEO as well as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) since mid-January. Elarton has been the CFO since 2014.

Post Office Hoping for June 8th Transition

Postmistress Traci Long says she has “two decent leads” in her effort to sell Brunchies and the Colorado City Post Office location. Both of the prospective buyers have indicated a desire to keep the post office in its current location. According to Long, one of the two is a post office box holder.

Sheriff Places Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor, in consultation with county fire chiefs, is implementing Stage 1 fire restrictions effective immediately (April 13) for Pueblo County due to the high fire danger that persists in the region.

Rye FFA Team Brought Home High Honors

Rye High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) attended one of the largest FFA events held in Colorado on Wednesday, April 6. Lamar Community College (LCC) welcomed more than 700 students from high schools throughout Colorado to campus for FFA Regional Career Development Events (CDEs).

Area Wildfires Kept Crews Busy Sunday and Monday

A pair of wildfires ignited in Pueblo County this last week, but were quickly controlled. Monday a pair of vacant structures that caught on fire caused a 2–3 acre wildland fire in Beulah. The fire took place in the 8700 block of Pine Drive.
