The Rye High School girls volleyball team won nine straight sets last week over three opponents and upping their season record to 7-1 and leading the Santa Fe League with a 4-0 record.
On September 5, the team traveled to Walsenburg to face John Mall and downed the home team 25-11, 25-15, and 25-4.

Last week in Rocky Ford, David Maroney broke the cross-country Rye High School record with a time of 17:12.10, which was one second faster than his older brother’s time back in 2015. Maroney currently has the 13th fastest time in Colorado in class 2A Courtesy Photo
Cross Country Team Continues to Better Times

Nearly 400 runners participated at the September 9 Joe I. Vigil Cross Country Invitational in Alamosa.
David Maroney finished highest for the Thunderbolts as he placed 23rd out of the 204 young men who finished the 5000-meter race. Maroney ran the course in a time of 17:45.82.

Slow Start Stymies Thunderbolts at Salida

“We didn’t come out well enough at the start of the game,” Rye High School football Head Coach Connor Pigg summarized the 39-22 loss to Salida last Friday night on the road.
“Compounding our slow start,” continued Pigg, “was a bad injury to Codah Graber.

Nearly One Hundred Golfers Battle it out at Hollydot

Ninety-five golfers descended on Hollydot Golf Course on September 1 for the Rye High School Invitational Golf Tournament.
Monte Vista walked away with the team title while the local talent from Rye came in 8th out of the 21 teams in attendance.

RHS Volleyball Team Downs Swallows in Three Sets

The Rye High School volleyball team moved into the #4 slot in the 2A state rankings this week as they rolled over Swallows Charter Academy 25-17; 25-16; and 25-14 in straight sets on the road.
Senior Jaklyn Newitt had three service aces and 16 assists in the victory.

Maroney Captures Third in Rocky Ford Invitational

David Maroney finished in third place in the 50th Annual Rocky Ford Invitational Cross Country Meet on September 1.
Maroney captured the bronze, the first medal of the season, with a season best time of 17:12.10 in the 5000-meter event. Cole Krug of Lamar won the event in a time of 16:45.

Hurne Rolls for Three Touchdowns,

Dylan Hurne scored three rushing touchdowns and quarterback Nolan Schauer threw for one as the Rye High School Thunderbolts won their opening game of the season on the road over Manitou Springs 27-12.
Hurne packed the pigskin 34 times and rolled for 231 yards in the victory.

Domer Shoots for Ten to Lead Thunderbolt Morale

Sara Domer was a cheerleader and very involved in Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) while she was a student at Pueblo West. Now, the mom of three girls who attend Greenhorn Valley schools, is the Head Coach for the Rye High School cheerleading squad.

Golf Team Enjoys Best Tournament as Season End Gets Closer

The Rye High School Golf team competed on their own Hollydot Golf Course in the Pueblo County Invitational on August 25.
Pueblo West came out on top of the 15-team tournament rain shortened tournament, ending the day at +19. Rye placed 7th with +47.
