Wrestlers Out Dual Trinidad on the Road

The Rye Wrestling Team traveled to Trinidad last Thursday, December 7 and won four out of five contested weight classes.

At 126 pounds Andy Prichard won a major decision 12-4 over Trinidad’s Eric Martinez. Rye’s Hyrum Peterson won a 5-3 decision in the 144 lb. weight class over Mathew Garduno.

At 165 lb.’s RHS’ Skyler Moore decisioned Trinidad’s Charles Garcia, 4-1. Jose Martinez continued Rye’s winning ways with a fall at the 3:42 mark over Connor Knezel of the home team Miner’s.

Rye’s only head-to-head loss came in the 215 lb. weight class where Thunderbolt Jesse Huskins lost a fall at the 1:38 mark to Cisco Duran of Trinidad.

Rye Head Coach Billy Forell was pleased. “ The kids wrestled very well,” he shared. “Last year when we dueled Trinidad, we only one a single match. We are seeing growth and development of the kids on the mat.”

The grapplers travel to John Mall High School in Walsenburg on Saturday for their invitational tournament.
