Three State-Bound Tracksters to Represent

Garret George, Isaiah Guzman and Jordan Holgerson will represent the Rye Thunderbolts at the State Track Meet May 18-20 at Jeffco Field in Lakewood Colorado.

Guzman has the seventh best triple jump in 2A and will also participate in the long jump, where he is seeded 16th. Holgerson has the 13th best shot-put throw and George has the 14th best time in the 110-meter hurdles.

For the rest of the team, the final event of the season was the 49 team Friday Night Lights Meet sponsored by Pueblo West.

George placed the highest of the Thunderbolt boys, taking 6th in the 300-meter hurdles, completing them in a season best time of 43.74 seconds. He also placed 7th in the 110-meter hurdles which he ran in a time of 17.49 seconds.

Jordan Holgerson was the top placer for the Lady T’s with a shot put throw3:51.65. of 32’10.5” which was good for 6th place. That was Holgerson’s best effort of the season. Kendall Himmelberg finished 7th in the girls’ triple jump with a leap of 30’ 9.5”.

The boys’ 4x400 meter relay team placed 9th in a time of 3:51.65. Derick Bak, Guzman, Mason Ford and George ran the four legs. The boys 4x800 meter relay team placed 13th in a time of 10:43.53. Colton Hendricksen, Chandler Shifflet, Justin Siduyla, and Derek Sheets carried the baton for Rye.

Jaklyn Newitt placed 12th in the shot put with a throw of 30’3”. Newitt was also 19th in the discus with a throw of 74’5”.

Hailey George finished in the top twenty in three events. She was 13th in the 300-meter hurdles (18.03 seconds), 15th in the 100meter hurdles (18.03 seconds) and 20th in the long jump with a leap of 29’3”.

Bak placed 15th in the shot put with a toss of 38’4” and Guzman placed 17th in the long jump with a 19’8.5” effort.

The girls’ 800-meter sprint medley team placed 18th in a time of 2:26.70. That team was composed of Sofia Crosson, Gwen Larson, Aisha Farney, and Clara Chandler.

“Friday night was chilly and windy,” shared Head Boys’ Track Coach Connor Pigg. “But we still managed 13 personal records. We had an awesome cohesive team this season and we are going to miss our seniors who provided leadership all season long.

Guzman will participate in the triple jump at 4 p.m. on Thursday and in the long jump on Saturday at 10 a.m. George will be in the 110meter hurdles prelims on Thursday at 4 p.m. The finals for the 110-meter hurdles are scheduled on Saturday at 9:40 a.m. Holgerson will be in the shot-put event at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
