Rye Volleyball has Set Back Against Fowler

“I think we got too comfortable with not being challenged,” shared Head RHS Volleyball Coach Michele Roy in regard to a three-set loss to Fowler on October 12.

Rye lost the match 13-25; 18-25 and 16-25 on the road. Isabella Bond had half a dozen kills, one service ace and four blocks in the loss. Desiree Ruiz had 23 digs and 24 service receptions.

Kelsy Stribling had six kills as did Jordan Holgerson who also had 14 digs. Jaklyn Newitt had a dozen assists and Seine Roy had a dozen service receptions.

Olivia Donlon had three assists.

“All teams are beatable, just depends on the day,” continued Roy. “We definitely did not play at the level we are capable of. We started making mistakes and Fowler took advantage of it. They played a great match and we couldn’t keep up.”

Rye did down Swallows on the 10th, 3-0 and Del Norte on the 14th, 3-1.

Newitt had quite a night against Swallows with six kills, three service aces, 10 digs, 10 assists, and four service receptions. Rye won 25-15; 25-16; and 25-11 at home.

Ruiz had 10 digs and 18 service receptions in the victory. Holgerson had six kills and Bond had one block. Hayley Newitt had a block as well and Mackenzie Indgjer had four assists.

Against Del Norte, on the road, Rye lost the first set 25-9 but came back with three straight wins 25-9; 25-10; and 25-14 for the victory.

Newitt had six kills, three service aces and 10 assists in the road win. Roy had four aces, 18 digs, and 14 service receptions. Holgerson had eight kills and 10 service receptions. Bond had three service aces, and seven blocks and Stribling had three service aces, two blocks and eight assists.

“ This week we play our final league match vs Walsenburg.

This is also our senior night where we will recognize our four seniors: Kendall Himmelberg, Jordan Holgerson-Rahl, Jaklyn Newitt, and Leah Petterson,” shared Roy.

After that last league match Rye will host a tournament and will face Sanford (10-8) and Trinidad (14-3). Trinidad in ranked #24 in the state.

With the loss to Fowler Rye dropped a notch to the #3 rank.

“We will learn from our loss to Fowler and become a better team,” summarized Roy. “We want to close out our regular season matches on a strong note to maintain our rank going into the playoffs.”
