Rye Seeded Second in 2A Post Season Play

The Rye High School volleyball team will host one of the regional tournaments on November 4, as post season plays with the Lady T’s seeded #2 in 2A tournament action.

Holyoke (10-13), ranked #23 and Telluride (10-11) ranked #35, along with RHS will make up the three teams vying to advance. Rye will face Telluride at noon and Holyoke at 3 p.m. The winner will advance to state.

Rye ended their regular season with a pair of victories on October 27 on their home court over Trinidad and St. Mary’s.

Against Trinidad, Rye won the match 3-1 by scores of 25-17, 2514, 26-28, and 25-11. Jordan Holgerson had 15 kills and Isabella Bond had 13 kills and two blocks.

Seine Roy had eight service aces and 10 service receptions.

Desiree Ruiz had 32 digs and 38 service receptions. Jaklyn Newitt had a dozen digs and 34 assists and Mackenzie Indgjer had 13 assists in the victory.

Rye downed Sanford in three straight matches: 25-11, 25-8, and 25-12.

Holgerson had a dozen kills and seven service receptions in the victory. Bond had eight kills, three service aces and three blocks. Newitt had three service aces, eight digs and 19 assists.

Ruiz had 10 digs, and a dozen service receptions.

“ The girls had a fantastic day on Friday,” assessed Head Coach Michele Roy. “Every girl had some kind of contribution towards our wins. As a whole we allowed no aces and we had 89 kills. Several girls had season best numbers. We hope to keep that kind of momentum going as we host regionals on Saturday.”

In the third match Sanford downed Trinidad 3-0.

Wiggins (19-4) is the #1 seed in 2A. Other Santa Fe League teams in the regional tournament include Hoehne (17-6) seeded #7, Fowler (16-7) seeded #12 and Swink (17-6) seeded #14. Thirtysix teams participate in the regionals with 12 advancing to state.
