The Rye High School football team rolled over Ellicott with a 56-28 Homecoming victory last Friday night. By halftime Rye led 3514 and by the end of the 3rd quarter that margin had been increased to 56-14 as the Thunderbolts racked up 535 allpurpose yards against the visitors.
Dylan Hurne scored six touchdowns and ran for 281 yards on 15 carries.
Quarterback Nolan Schauer completed 12 of 15 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown. Senior Brendan Gray caught a pair of passes for 91 yards.
The defense was all over the Ellicott offense. Both Jheffrey Miller and Derick Bak had eight tackles. Hurne intercepted a pass. Freshman Wyatt Scheid picked up a sack of the Ellicott quarterback, Andy Prichard recovered a fumble, and the rest of the defense helped the visiting Thunderhawk’s feel anything but welcome on their visit to Rye.
Kyran Baker was a perfect eight of eight on extra point attempts.
The victory moved Rye to a 4-1 record and gave them a victory as league play began.
Rye faces a key league contest Friday night when they travel to Colorado Springs to take on Colorado Springs Christian. Both teams have identical records.
CSCS downed Rocky Ford 44-0 in their first league contest.
“ The CSCS will have massive implications for league standings and for playoff seeding,” shared Head Coach Connor Pigg.
“CSCS retains a talented roster from last year. Despite graduating their top rusher, top receiver and top lineman from last year’s team they are moving the ball well and having luck stopping teams. Their quarterback is likely top three in all of 1a. He is a precision thrower who is elusive in the pocket and can scramble for big yards. Our run game is hard to stop at the moment so it should be an interesting game.”
CSCS averages 194.6 yards passing per game and 231.2 yards rushing per game. Rye averages 154.8 yards passing per game and 303.2 yards rushing per game.
