Rye Downs Hoehne, Back to Number Two in the State

The Rye High School volleyball team climbed back into the #2 spot in 2A rankings statewide after a three-set victory over Hoehne on October 3. Rye went to Hoehne and won by scores of 25-15; 25-23; and 25-21.

Kelsy Stribling and Jordan Holgerson each had seven kills in the victory. Jaklyn Newitt had five service aces, 20 digs, and 16 assists in the victory.

Isabella Bond had seven blocks and 20 service receptions. Desiree Ruiz had 24 digs for the night and 27 service receptions.

Seine Roy had four service aces and Hayley Newitt had a pair of blocks. Olivia Donlon had seven assists.

“We aren’t a team that rides on the accomplishments of one or two girls,” assessed Head Coach Michele Roy. “I have 12 very talented players who have all contributed to our success.”

Rye hit the road Tuesday when they went to play at Swallow’s (810) after press time. Tonight (Thursday) they are again on the road, this time the face #9 ranked Fowler. Fowler is 12-4.

When Rye hosted Fowler on the 21st of September Rye won 2517, 25-14, and 25-17.

“Fowler will be more challenging,” shared Roy. “ They usually have a great fan turn out and the low ceilings in their gym can be difficult. We will need to play smart and continue to work together if we want to make that happen.”

Then the Thunderbolts take one more road trip on Saturday.

This time to visit Del Norte (810).

Roy was confident in her team.

“Should be no real surprises from Swallows or Del Norte. We will prepare for them like we have all other teams this season.”
