Cross Country Team Competes at Gunnison Invitational

The Rye High School Cross Country team competed in Gunnison at the Mountaineer Invitational last week.

Salida won both the girls and boys’ competition with identical team scores of 38 points. In the boys’ competition Rye placed 7th of eight teams with a score of 171. Ezekial Wilson of Salida won the 5000-meter event in a time of 16:32.4.

Leading the pack for Rye was David Maroney who placed 9th of the 86 runners. Maroney finished the course in a time of 17:31.8. Maroney currently has the 19th best time in class 2A for the year.

Timmy Blackhurst placed 43rd in a time of 20:21.2 and Colton Hendricksen placed 49th with a time of 20:53.2.

Hyrum Peterson completed the course in a time of 21:18.2 which was good for 55th and teammate Justin Siudyle finished one spot back in a time of 21:23.9.

Carter Ford placed 81st with a time of 25:16.0 and Tommy Blackhurst was in the 84th spot in a time of 27:56.1.

Rye also finished 7th in the girl’s team standings with 176 points.

Madelyn Stice of Gunnison won the event in a time of 18:54.0. She beat sixty-five other runners for the gold.

Katie Prichard had the best Thunderbolt finish, taking 47th place in a time of 25:45.9. Mylee Garner crossed the finish line one spot back in 48th in a time of 26:03.9.

Adriel Snyder ran the course in a time of 27:10.7 and finished 54th. Audrey Bowler finished 60th in a time of 29:21.0.

Coming in 63rd was Clara Chandler in a time of 30:36.9 and Stephanie Bak finished in 39:41.0 for 66th.

The next action for the Thunderbolts will be today (Thursday) in Colorado Springs at the North Monument Valley Park.

The host of the event is Coronado High School.
