William “Bill” Garry Callison

William “Bill” Garry Callison passed away May 20, 2022 at home. His wife of nearly 65 years was at his side.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 26, at 1 pm at Wallace Funeral Home in Newton, IA. Graveside services will take place Saturday, May 28 at 2 pm at the Clio, IA cemetery.

Bill was born July 25, 1935, in Wayne County, IA. He married the love of his life, Linda (McGriff) Callison on Oct. 19, 1957. Together they had four children, Elizabeth (Jerry) Wood, Debra (Todd) House, Michael (LuAnne) Callison, and Susan Callison. Bill is survived by his wife, children, nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one due in 2023, two great-great grandchildren and his brothers, John (Louise) Callison and Roy Ray (Dorothy) Callison. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bill grew up in rural Iowa and joined the U.S. Army after graduating from high school in 1954. He met his wife at the Newton skating rink and was smitten at first sight. Bill worked for the state of Iowa for 35 years before retiring in 1995. Bill loved to travel, and he and Linda spent their retirement years traveling and living in the southern and western states. From 2005 to 2020, he lived in Colorado City, CO. In 2020, they returned to Iowa and in 2021 moved to Newton.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Anna (Souder) Callison and Raymond Callison, is in-laws, Barbara and Martin McGriff, his sister Betty (Callison) Lepley and brother-in-law Bob Lepley.
