The gridiron woes of the young Rye High School football team continued last Friday when they traveled to Colorado Springs and faced the #1 ranked passer in 1A. The Colorado Springs Christian School home team defeated Rye 52-0.
“ The game was really big plays and a Thunderbolt offense that stalled,” shared Head Coach Connor Pigg. “Our defense was particularly physical in the first half of the game we had two sacks and the hurries that are recorded are sacks that the CSCS quarterback escaped.”
As usual, Jose Martinez led the team in tackles with 14. Wyatt Sheid and Jackson Bjourn contributed seven
each.
On offense, quarterback Chris Scott completed six of nine passes for 58 yards. Bjourn accounted for 28 of those yards and Martinez for 16 yards.
Scott also led the team in rushing for the game with nine carries for 38 yards. Bjourn carried the ball seven times for 12 yards.
Rye almost scored at the end of the game but ran out of time. Rye had 119 all-purpose yards for the game.
Rye will end their season Friday night on the home field against Dolores Huerta Prep. DHP has a 1-5 record and are ranked #34 of the 35 teams in 1A. Rye is 1-7 and ranked #25.
It has been a hard season for the team and the coaches but Head Coach Pigg continues to look for the things that point to a solid future. One of those happened this week when the JV boys had an electric overtime win against Trinidad.
Game time is 7:00 p.m.
