Maroney Will Represent Cross Country Team at State Tournament

Junior David Maroney placed 4th in the 2A Region 3 Cross Country meet held at Rocky Ford and will represent Rye High School in the state meet. Maroney completed the course in 16:37.70 less than a minute behind the winner, Andrew Bel of Colorado Springs Christian School, who finished in a time of 15:48.50.

RHS came up just short in qualifying both the boys and girls’ team. The top four teams attend state and Rye placed 5th in both the girls’ and boys’ standings.

Thomas Maclaren won the boys’ team scoring with 26 points. Rye, as mentioned, was 5th with 93 points. Eleven teams competed and 79 individual runners.

Timothy Blackhurst ran a season’s best time of 18:52.10 which was good for 28th place. Justin Siudyla also had his best time of the season, finishing 37th with a time of 20:00.10.

Carter Ford claimed the third season best in a row for Rye with a time of 20:42.30 and a 46th place finish. Right behind him, in 47th place, Thunderbolt Easton Snyder had his best performance of the season with a time of 20:43.40.

Colton Hendricksen ran the course in a time of 21:51.30 and finished 54th. Tommy Blackhurst saved his best race for regionals as well with a time of 22:59.80 and 65th place. Caleb Shifflet finished 71st with a season best time of 23:37.20.

Four of the girls team also had their season best race including Katie Prichard who finished in 23:46.90, good for 18th place overall.

Brooklyn Minihane of Colorado Springs Christian School won the gold ion a time of 19:43.40. Rocky Ford won the team title in the girls’ division. Rye was 5th.

After Pritchard, Madison Kirchoff came in 19th with a season best time of 24:05.30. Audrey Bowler had her best race of the season with a time of 24:24.20 and a 23rd place finish.

Adriel Snyder was 28th with a time of 25:11.60. Gabriella Basille had her best time of the year and placed 58th in 30:51.90. Sixty-one girls competed.

The state tournament is on Saturday, November 2 at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. The 2A boys will run at 1 p.m.
