The Rye Cross Country team had their final meet before Regionals when the competed in the Pueblo City/County Cross Country Championships on October 11th.
David Maroney placed 5th in the boy’s competition running the 5000 meters in a time of 18:14.20. Maroney currently has the 20th best time in 2A competition. Luke Ware, a sophomore from Pueblo West won the event in a time of 17:22.40.
Colton Hendricksen finished 16th for Rye in a time of 21:10.00. There were 57 Pueblo County runners competing.
Hyrum Peterson placed 23rd in a time of 22:11.90. Justin Siudyla ran the course in a time of 22:40.90 for a 29th place finish and Jayden Englert placed 37th in a time of 24:06.10.
Rye placed 4th in the team event with 107 points. Pueblo West won with a score of 27.
Seven teams participated.
Mylee Garner had a season best time of 25:54.40 and placed 20th out of 48 runners in the girls’ meet. Katie Prichard placed right behind Garner in 21st in a time of 26:08.70. Emma Vecchio of Pueblo West won the event in a time of 20:46.80.
Rye’s Adriel Snyder ran the 5,000 meters in a time of 27:36.80 which was good for 29th place. In 36th was Audrey Bowler who logged a time of 29:28.60. Clara Chandler was 41st in a time of 31:39.60.
Five teams participated in the girls’ event. Pueblo West won with 19 points. Rye placed 5th with 103 points.
Rye is part of the Region 3 regionals which will compete at Cottonwood Meadows in Buena Vista. Beginning time is 11 a.m.
Teams competing are Antonito, Buena Vista, Centauri, Center, Cripple Creek-Victor, Custer County, Del Norte, Hoehne, Kim, Las Animas, Moffat, Monte Vista, Platte Canyon, Primero, Rocky Ford, Rye, Sargent, Sierra Grande, South Park, St. Mary’s (Springs), Springfield, Swallows Charter, Thomas McLaren.
Class 2A will host four different regionals. At each regional, the top five teams, along with any individual finishing among the top 15 individuals, will automatically qualify for the state championship.
