Rye FFA Plans for 2023-24 School Year

FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA

The Rye High School FFA Chapter is busy already. This year's officer team has been working together to organize events and welcome new members since before school started.

Officers for the 2023-24 year are Katelyn Huskins, President; Taylor Kenney, Vice-President; Lacie Laca, Secretary; Adyson Mittlestat, Treasurer; Cory Allee and Kenzie Nielsen, reporters; Cody Dodge, Sentinel; Michael Amaya, Hannah Davis, Ellie Loehr, members of the Executive Committee. The officers attended the officer retreat in Denver in July and held their first official meeting in August.

Construction for the new 40x40 addition to the Ag classroom is making progress. The addition was approved in the 4A bond measure in 2020 but has had a few delays. RHS FFA members are excitedly planning for when the addition is completed. Upon completion of the addition, the current classroom will be turned into a lab. The addition will allow the Ag program to have more work area, expand the members' knowledge of agriculture, and be able to produce more products for the community.

On August 17, the RHS FFA held a member-only Back to School BBQ. They enjoyed hotdogs, chips, and drinks while getting to know each other and playing cornhole and football. The BBQ was also a welcome to the 27 new Greenhand FFA members.

Sixteen of the RHS FFA members exhibited livestock during the Pueblo County Fair in July and one member showed in the Huerfano County Fair.

Plans for the annual Homecoming BBQ to be held on September 29 are well underway. Tickets for the delicious traditional Sloppy Joe dinner with chips, coleslaw, watermelon, and a drink will be for sale by RHS FFA members for just $7.50. The dinner will begin at 11:00 a.m. on September 29 at the RHS AG building.

Proceeds from the Homecoming BBQ are used to help the new Greenhand members purchase their FFA jackets.

The Craver Middle School Ag program will be holding a cow pie bingo during the BBQ with proceeds from it going to help get the Craver program started.
