Maroney Captures Third in Rocky Ford Invitational

David Maroney finished in third place in the 50th Annual Rocky Ford Invitational Cross Country Meet on September 1.

Maroney captured the bronze, the first medal of the season, with a season best time of 17:12.10 in the 5000-meter event. Cole Krug of Lamar won the event in a time of 16:45.40 and Banning Lewis captured the team title in which 95 runners took to the course. Rye finished 5th of the eight boys’ teams.

Katie Prichard placed 23rd in the girl’s portion of the race in a time of 25:28.40, a season best time for Prichard as well. Banning Lewis Prep Academy also won the girls’ team title.

Alexia Gonzales of the winning team was first in a time of 19:49.50. Rye placed 6th in the six-team event.

Timmy Blackhurst finished 42nd in a time of 21:12.80.

That was a season best for Blackhurst. Mylee Garner came in 46th in the girls’ event in a time of 28:19.00.

Justin Siudyla was 44th in the time of 20:32.30 a season best in the boys’ event. He was less than 30 seconds ahead of teammate Colton Hendricksen who placed 50th in a time of 20:58.50.

Adriel Snyder also locked in 50th place on the girls’ side with a season best time of 29:25.80.

Clara Chandler was 55th in a time of 31:36.10, a season best time for her as well. Hyrum Peterson placed 57th in a time of 21:57.90.

In 60th was Audrey Bowler who had her season best time of 33:14.70. Jayden Englert ran the course in 22:54.50 which was good for 63rd.

Carter Ford took 81st in a time of 26:32.50. Tommy Blackhurst finished in a time of 26:42.00 which was good for 82nd and Chandler Shifflet rounded out the scoring for the T-Bolts, finishing in 86th in a time of 28:13.20.

Maroney is currently ranked the top runner in region 3 of 2A.

Max Miller of Vanguard currently has the best time in the state of Colorado in 2A. Addison Jones of Wray has the best 2A time in the state so far this year of the girls.

The cross-country team will log some miles as they participate in the heart of the season. On September 9 they travel to Alamosa for a meet which will be held at the Cattails Golf Course. The following week on the 16th they travel to Gunnison for a meet that will be held at the Gunnison Community School. A short jog to Colorado Springs will take place on the 21st when Coronado hosts a meet at North Monument Valley Park.
