Golf Team Captures Gold in Two Tournaments

The Rye High School Girls’ Golf team won the gold medal at the Hornet Invitational held at Hollydot Golf Course last Friday. Rye Shot a team score of 267 to beat runner up Pueblo West by three strokes.

Rye’s Emma Garcia shot an 84 to win the individual bronze medal two strokes behind Pueblo Central’s Sofia Contreras and Pueblo West’s Clayre Wagner who both shot an 82. Rye’s Olivia Donlon placed 4th with a score of 87. The top four finishers were all freshmen or sophomores.

Kelsey Stribling shot a 96 and Gianna Baker shot a 126 for the champions.

Last Thursday at the Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa Rye also won the team championship. Garcia won the event with an 88, followed by Donlon (93), Stribling (94) and Kenzie Nielsen shot a 107.

The next action for Rye will be hosting their own invitational at Hollydot on Friday May 12.
