Letter to the Editor

- Thank you! For your column re: teachers. I agree that good teachers aren’t paid consistent with their value to society. And bad teachers need to be gone. thanks for saying so!

- and thank you for your continued reporting on the Fred Ettleman case. It’s always disturbing to read stories like his, and then hear NOTHING about it after. I appreciate your diligence in following up with Pueblo PD. Maybe a squeaky wheel will motivate them to not shelve it. Lord knows, they have their hands full in following up on homicides in Pueblo!

John Zondlo CCMD Candidate Forum

The CCMD candidate forum was informative by revealing what the candidates are proposing if elected. What will their proposals cost us? There are candidates who advocate for more TAXES in the form of road tax, water fee hikes and hiring grant writers. County residents are already being promised 30% to 40% property tax increases by the County Assessor for 2024!

Homeowner and vehicle insurance is also rising exponentially, not to mention food and gas prices that have risen due to inflation caused by fiscal irresponsibility.

Two candidates want to market CC and go outside the boundaries of the Greenhorn Valley and apparently think they will attract outside employees at a rate of $15 per hour, rather than paying local employees a decent wage? Some candidates and board members want to market the Valley so it looks like most Front Range cities that includes more crime, traffic congestion, pollution, crowded schools and lack clean water. Most candidates interviewed by the Valley View seem to think the answer is obtaining Government Grant Money, “What the Government giveth the Government can taketh away”. There is 1 candidate and 1 present board member who should check their own property for blatant and unsightly covenant violations! The CCAC is in desperate need of people who can actually enforce covenants, not give lip service. The metro manager should not control the CCAC committee; it’s a control issue more than a time issue. The charge for all CC Board Members should be to maintain the CC lifestyle for our children and grandchildren for generations to come. Clean air, clean sustainable water, clean environment, wildlife preservation, and to maintain a small community. More people bring more trash and litter along our roadways and country side. We are now facing a magnitude of litter and garbage in Colorful Colorado that is unsightly and out of control. Our leaders need to face reality and be fiscally responsible, that means a balance between spending and the money received. That includes allocating and spending money appropriately. In other words, “Stick to the Budget.”
