CCMD in Denial

I realize that I am considered “chicken little” in talking about Colorado City’s water availability and that the comment “we have plenty of water” has been voiced more than once by our Board but I need to point out a couple of items of interest.

First Pueblo West has already imposed water restrictions because of the concern or water availability and even restricted new building and just the past few days Woodland Park reportedly has imposed water restrictions because of concerns of supply.

I believe that to build a home in Pueblo West there is a cost per lot of somewhere in the $25,000 to $35,000 range and I also believe that a water and sewer tap is about $25,000 so you have at least $50,000 up front to build CC on the other hand turns down an offer of $3500 holds out for a whopping $4000 on a lot and water and sewer is $16,000 for a total of about $20,000 so no wonder why each meeting the Board approves a couple of new homes and the sale of a lot or two and I guess they think they are making a good deal.

Right now the spring runoff is over and we just had a terribly dry June and there is not a lot of optimism for a lot of moisture for the summer. I wonder what our Board will say about “plenty of water” when they are running the pump in every well just to try to keep up with demand, Lake Beckwith is a slimy mud hole, and if they will still be approving new homes.

Letter to the Editor

I was wondering why there hasn’t been any articles about the mail situation here in Colorado City - I have heard that this is an issue that has come up in the past. But for those of us who are new to the area, more info would be very helpful.

Such as: Why don’t we have a post office? How do we get one,? How long has this been a problem? Why is it a problem? What are the legal issues. What could someone like me do to change/ fix the problem? Is it not a problem to some? Why is the newspaper not addressing it? Who do we contact if we wanted to do get a post office?

Those are some of the questions I wonder if we could read about. Thank you for your consideration.
