Letters to the Editor

Letter to the Editor:

"... a bubblin crude. Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea."

Such were lines from the theme song of the 1960s TV show, “The Beverly Hillbillies.” The show’s plot had Jed Clampett an impoverished hillbilly living alongside an oil-rich swamp that turns him into an instant millionaire.

Today a “climate phobia” has become a new religion and fossil fuels have become the devil. That 60s TV show couldn’t exist today – Jed Clampett would’ve died impoverished, fighting lawsuits brought by environmental groups and government regulations, and would never see a teaspoon of oil.

It’s just amazing how things can change between administrations. There was a day when a follow-on administration would build on the successes of its predecessor. It seems the present administration took it upon themselves to “throw all the babies out with the bathwater;” hence, putting aside all the other administration-created problems, we find ourselves in the middle of an energy crisis.

The rising cost of energy has impacted all areas of our everyday living whether it’s heating your home, driving your car, or the delivery of essential goods and services.

Now we have the administration’s blame game: from price gouging by the oil companies; and the latest, since the invasion of Ukraine, it’s all Putin’s fault. Since the invasion, gasoline prices rose 6.6%, but they're up 38% under this administration.

Another farcical excuse is the 9000 open leases on federal land and oils failure to drill – this is incredibly misleading. Winning a lease is the beginning of a long expensive process - there’s exploration, environmental reviews, permitting, and drilling a well to actually access oil/natural gas. President Biden’s antagonistic view of any fossil fuel would dissuade any oil company to spend a dime on this effort.

Instead of begging the Saudis to pump more oil, or cutting deals with despots in Iran and Venezuela, Mr. Biden should rethink his Administration's hostility to American oil and gas production. Maybe he will if his party takes a thumping in November.

Enough said.

Letter to the Editor

I would like to send out a heart-felt thanks to all those who sponsored the Rye Girls’ Basketball Team. Without such staunch and dedicated supporters, the team, both players and coaches, would not have enjoyed or been able to concentrate on the game as much as we did.

In a time when financial aid to high school sports is almost nonexistent, community supporters have become a great asset to high school teams. Rye Girls’ Basketball is no different. Playing a sport at the high school level has become quite a burden on parents as many coaches are wanting to do summer camps, provide team gear, engage in team building events, lunches, etc., in addition to the sporting fees assigned by the district.

As a coach, I feel very blessed to have these people step up and not only show us their moral support, but financial support as well. I am truly grateful and cannot thank them enough for all they’ve done for us.

I also want to thank all the parents of the Rye Girls’ basketball team. They gave and gave unselfishly towards whatever this team needed. Without a doubt, this basketball team is a very special team, but it’s very obvious that the parents have shown them the way. So, from my heart, I want to thank each of them for all they did for the girls and the coaches of Rye Girls’ Basketball.

Thanks also to the Greenhorn Valley View for their coverage and support.
