COLORADO CITY METROPOLITAN DISTRICT
During the February 14 board meeting, District Manager Jim Eccher reminded the Colorado City Metropolitan District (CCMD) board that the Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder has said they will not run the election for special districts this year. He said he has been checking on alternative methods for the election but, sadly, it may cost the district up to $38,000 to have the election.
The amount seemed to stun most of the directors. As Director Greg Collins said, “This is a volunteer position we are trying to fill, and it is going to cost us a ridiculous sum to hold the election.”
The CCMD board has three positions to be filled this year. Directors Harry Hochstetler and Terry Kraus are term limited and cannot run again. Director Neil Elliot is up for re-election due to a change in state mandates for special district elected officials.
Eccher and the directors discussed that somewhere between 4500 to 5000 ballots were sent out for the last election.
Candidates have until February 24 to submit their applications to run for board member position. The deadline for write-in nominations is March 3. If there are not more candidates than positions to fill, the election could possibly be cancelled.
The election resolution was tabled until more research could be done to try to find another county or company to run the election at a more reasonable price.
A discussion was held about the Parks and Recreation department needing a facility to store their mowers and equipment in. Eccher revealed that some of the equipment is stored outside at the present time. Options for remodeling existing CCMD structures to serve as a garage were discussed.
The board voted approval for $15,000 of the Conservation Trust Fund (CTF) to complete Applewood Park.
These funds are to cover $2,240 for certified, pretreated wood chips, $2240 for hauling chips, and $375.76 for two rolls of ground fabric and staples. Ramps and mats for swings and slides and fencing materials are also included.
Director Collins revisited the topic of the Duell Well which has been scheduled for repairs several times. The contract for repairs was recently cancelled following a discussion about radon levels in the well. Collins advised he had done more research on the radon levels, how to lower radon levels, and the output of the well when it was in operation. Collins requested that Eccher get quotes on repairing the Duell Well, as he feels we are going to need the water.
Under Colorado City Architectural Advisory Committee business, a new build was approved for 3860 Sedwick Place, and complaints/ actions were tabled until the next meeting to gather more information.
