RYE, COLORADO
Despite a fierce, drenching rain that left vendors and businesses scrambling, it would have been hard to find happier people than those attending the Rye Town Square Fair on Saturday, August 6.
Nearly fifty vendors, some local and many from out of the area joined the local Main Street businesses in offering an unending variety of goods for sale. A bouncy house, magic show, food trucks, free musical entertainment, and a gift card giveaway made for a festive and lighthearted day’s entertainment. The Town of Rye also offered free hotdogs, chips, and drinks at the Town Hall for the fairgoer's enjoyment.
Main Street was shut down, and there was an officer directing traffic at Boulder. Parking was available at Rye Elementary and Rye High School, Rye Post Office, and the surrounding streets near Main St. The event lasted from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
An informative program and discussion about Rye’s water was presented by Greg Colter and Mallory Hiss of Colorado Rural Water from 2:30-3:30 p.m., during the fair. Colter spoke about Rye’s water system and shared that Rye has recently been designated a “Smart City” for the work they have done on their water system and improving their filtering.
Hiss explained the mission of the Colorado Rural Water Association and that they provide training, apprenticeships, and visit systems throughout the state to help them meet state and federal standards.
