RYE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
During a special Rye Fire Protection District (RFPD) Meeting on March 13, Chief Bennett noted that only two people had submitted selfnominations for board positions, and no one submitted as a write-in candidate. Chief Bennett, District Election Officer, submitted the paperwork to cancel the election.
This leaves one (1) open seat after May 2, 2023. At that time, the Board can interview and appoint a party to fill the last remaining seat.
Chief Bennett noted that Dan Wachob was sworn into office for a board position before this meeting.
Christy DeNardo, with Garren, Ross & DeNardo, Inc. Certified Public Accountants, was present to give a general review of the 2021 Audit that was presented to the Board. She noted that the financial reports were in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America and that the audit was conducted in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of America. The audit was conducted independently of the District.
RFPD has no debt as of December 31, 2021, and DeNardo noted that the reserve of $37,000 as required by TABOR was satisfied. The Board inquired if TABOR could be defunded.
It was recommended if the Board wants to pursue defunding it, to wait until after the audit is finalized.
DeNardo noted that this audit is for the 2021 fiscal year and the 2022 audit is due by July 31, 2023, and there are no extensions available. If the audit is not filed and accepted by July 31, 2023, then the counties will once again start freezing payments.
It was noted that once the audit is approved by the Board, it will be filed the next day and DeNardo will be in contact with the State of Colorado to let them know that the audit has been submitted. Once approved by the State of Colorado, notices will be sent to the counties noting that they can release the withheld funds.
Richard Simpson, Chairman of the RFPD Board, told DeNardo that the Board appreciates her effort and resilience in getting the audit complete.
Fire Chief Steve Bennett advised that he obtained a few quotes for the door modifications at Station 1 in Rye.
The best quote that came in was from Corsentino Construction.
Chris Dowell stated he talked with his partner and they are interested in doing the accounting for RFPD, but they will not be able to start until after tax season. The Board noted that they are interested in proceeding with Dowell and need a price for these services.
