The United States Forest Service is sponsoring a mitigation slash collection event for property owners in or near the towns of San Isabel, Beulah, and Rye, Colorado, on Saturday, May 31. This event, part of the San Carlos Ranger District Slash Collection, will run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the gravel pit located on Highway 78, mile 1, commonly referred to as “12-mile road,” near San Isabel, Colorado.
With wildfire season approaching, local residents are encouraged to participate in this year’s Fire Mitigation Slash Collection Events by hauling natural woody debris to the designated drop-off site. Community-wide support is essential for effective wildfire mitigation and reducing risk for everyone.
This event provides community members with an opportunity to minimize fire risk by proactively clearing and disposing of natural woody debris from their properties. Participation is limited to property owners in or near San Isabel, Beulah, and Rye. Contractors working for participating property owners are allowed, but no commercial operators will be accepted.
There are a few rules to observe when taking advantage of the slash collection event. Please tarp your load to secure loose debris. Each load will be evaluated prior to unloading. Limbs and branches from firs, pines, oak, and brush are accepted. Lumber, leaves, weeds, grass, sawdust, stumps, wood chips or trash of any kind are not accepted.
If you don’t have time to prepare for this slash collection, consider taking advantage of the warmer weather on the horizon to start clearing your property for future drop-offs. The Forest Service will host three fire mitigation slash collection events for property owners in this area in 2025, with the next dates set for August 2 and September 20.
The U.S. Forest Service will wait for sufficient moisture before safely burning the collected piles.
