VFC Easter Egg Hunt Created Smiles

Greenhorn Meadows Park hopped to life Saturday, April 16, as approximately 100 children from the Greenhorn Valley came out to hunt Easter eggs and visit with the Easter bunny.

Members of the Sangre de Cristo Volunteers for Community (VFC) were thrilled to be able to hold the annual Easter egg hunt after the last few years were shut down due to the spread of COVID. The organizer of the event, Judy Patrick, said, “It was so good to be able to do this event again. It was a lot of fun even though we did eliminate some things like the face painting and the three-legged sack race to try to give everyone some space.”

Volunteers began gathering at the pavilion in Greenhorn Meadows Park at about 9:00 a.m. to set up games, hide the Easter eggs and contribute to and set up for the huge bake sale.

Patrick shared, “We had a lot of different ways for the kids to go home with something very special. The Ladies Auxiliary made and donated Easter baskets full of goodies that were given as prizes for some of the games. The Bank of the San Juans donated four $50 prizes for the children’s drawing. We had special eggs in the Easter egg hunt decorated like a chicken or a rabbit. If the kids found one of those eggs, they were able to select an item out of a basket of prizes. Patrick laughed, “I love

Patrick laughed, “I love being a VFC volunteer and getting to put this together for the kids. I had such a great time and the kids enjoyed it too! We had all kinds of games: horseshoes, cornhole, Chick TacToe, egg decorating, bookmark making and, of course, the stars of the show, the Easter Bunny and the goats and goat cart.”

Phil and Nan Hassey, from GOAT-O-RAMA (http://www.goatorama.com) , had their wonderful goats, Finn and Sputnik, all decked out in festive Easter colors and let children of all ages pet the friendly goats or take a ride in the goat cart.
