SANGRE DE CRISTO VOLUNTEERS FOR COMMUNITY
The Sangre de Cristo Volunteers for Community (VFC) has fulfilled their dream of getting the Susan Kalman Peaks to Prairie Community Center open; and now they are planning how to use it.
In a VFC board meeting held on Wednesday, October 19, board members shared thoughts on how to attract more attention to the VFC and the community center.
The now up-to date, newly renovated building offers one of the most stunning views in the valley and has many different sized rooms available. The large party/reception room opens off to the patio while smaller rooms are just right for offering classes and meetings. Dates are still available for booking holiday parties.
Weather permitting, the VFC plans to hold another of their famous yard sales in the basement of the community center. Lightly used items are being collected for the yard sale.
Currently at the center there are yoga classes, offered twice weekly on a donation basis. The VFC board members are hoping to bring more classes to the center and will be offering a special introductory rental rate for a limited time. The VFC board is in a transition stage and are working at cross-training their positions, creating building maintenance manuals, adding board members and stirring the interest of their members to attend board meetings and help with events.
The VFC Facebook page is being worked on and updated, and will soon be an easy way to keep track of upcoming activities.
Representatives from the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment (PDPHE) attended the VFC board meeting and discussed ways they could help launch the community center. They will be checking on community interest for CPR classes, emergency preparedness, and balance classes for seniors as a starting point.
PDPHE representative Alexis Romero Stewart offered to set up a brainstorming session with the VFC board members to assist with ideas of how the center can be used to generate income. The VFC board will meet with Stewart on November 9.
