Virginia and Jim Hasenack moved to the Greenhorn Valley area about ten years ago. Already no strangers, as they had previously been living and ranching near Rocky Ford and Jim is a native of the Walsenburg area. It didn’t take long for the fabulous Greenhorn Mountain in her backyard to become one of Virginia’s favorite photography targets.
Jim and Virginia share a love of photography and are both quite experienced. With Jim as her guide, by 2013 Virginia was compiling some stunning shots of the Greenhorn Mountain and the Greenhorn Mountain Wilderness. The desire to share some of these photos with her friends and family eventually led to Virginia having a 102-page book titled Greenhorn Mountain Wilderness published. It is an extensive collection of Virginia’s prime photos of flowers, wildlife, and trees found in the area.
Hasenack shared, “While the Greenhorn Wilderness area just shows up as a little space on a map, it backs up against the San Isabel National Forest. It is the only area that encompasses prairie all the way up to the mountain’s peak. You can get the best of both worlds exploring this area, seeing antelope on the plains, deer and elk on the way up, maybe even a marmot, all in one area.”
Hasenack will be sharing her vast knowledge of the wilderness area in a slideshow presentation at the Greenhorn Valley Library on April 23 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm.
Informational pamphlets about the wilderness area will be handed out, and many photos of the area, some Virginia's as well as other photographers, will be shown on the screen while she talks about the area.
The slideshow presentation is set up to educate and display the beauty of the Greenhorn Wilderness area and not primarily as a sales event. However, Hasenack will have a table set up with her books and some prints of her photos for sale. This is a good opportunity to purchase, as her books are limited in publication.
Hasenack’s recently completed an extensive showing of her photography work at the Pueblo West Library. She has previously shown in several area towns and has won honors in the Southern Colorado Photography Society and the Spanish Peaks Arts Council.
Everyone is invited to attend Hasenack’s presentation of one of the most beautiful areas of the Greenhorn Valley on April 23 from 2- 3:30 pm at the Greenhorn Valley Library. Light
