The Greenhorn Valley Book Club meetings are so much more than just a review of a book, although there is that too.
This lively and diverse group meets the last Thursday of each month at the Greenhorn Valley Library from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The discussions during the meeting range from the book read that month, the style of writing, the popularity of the book, the discussion of the author, and other books they may have written.
Each member of the group has the chance to share their thoughts about the book of the month, ask questions, and/or discuss aspects of the book.
The discussions move rapidly on to upcoming community events, members' travels, events of interest being held at the library, other interesting books the members have read, and events in the members' lives.
The book discussed at the September 29 meeting was Love and Fury: A Novel of Mary Wollstonecraft by Samantha Silva. Most of the group agreed the book was a hard read, although they did appreciate several of the points and symbolism in the book.
Hosted and led by Greenhorn Valley Branch Library Manager Linda Lewis, the once-a-month meeting seems to work out well for the members to have time to read the book of the month as well as make recommendations for other books they have found enjoyable.
The book club members are reading Surviving Savannah by Patti Callahan as their October choice. The book will be discussed at the next meeting, which will be on October 27. Everyone is welcome and invited to attend the meetings of the Greenhorn Valley Book Club, whether to attend each month or just drop in for an occasional meeting. If you sign up with Linda Lewis, she will send email reminders of the meetings and updates on the upcoming books the club is reading. You can contact Lewis at linda.lewis@pueblolibrary.or g or at 719-553-0350.
Lewis is already thinking about books to schedule for the next year's reading program
