This Saturday, June 4, Rye Fire Protection District will be hosting the first annual Colorado City Fire Run 5K. The run will take place at the Green Horn Mountain Park in Colorado City with registration beginning at 8:30 and the run beginning shortly after around 9:00.
There will also be a youth firefighter challenge for our future firefighters. The Colorado City chamber of commerce will have a booth set up as well as CSUP Football, No Moore Pests, and She’s Strong as well as Food Trucks from Wings and Wheels and You Bee Hungry.
RFPD would like to express our profound gratitude to the local businesses who have stepped up and sponsored this activity. They are; Farmers Insurance, Ace Hardware, Bishops Castle, and Bank of the San Juans, RFPD is humbled at your generosity. This run is the vision of one of the RFPD firefighters, Dakota Forsythe and is designed to bring in financial resources for the fire department over and above the taxes that our constituents pay, for Fire and EMS services.
With the additional resources RFPD will be able to upgrade our facilities to improve living conditions for our firefighters who spend one third of their lives living on site at Station 2 in Colorado City. This run is also designed to improve the community outreach of RFPD and help educate our community on who we are and what we do as a department to continue to promote our mission statement “service above self.”
In addition to the 5K run RFPD will begin a program for our community in which Station 2 at 4495 Bent Brothers Blvd will be opening up to the community one day a week for blood pressure, Heart rate and O2 checks. Each participant will receive a card to bring with them each time and one of our EMS staff will take and record the vitals. Also upcoming in the near future will be a pancake breakfast hosted at both Station 1 in Rye and Station 2 in Colorado City. Stay tuned for further details. Please join us for our first ever 5K run.
