Betty Jo “Jody” (Horner, Parker) Stanbro

Our dear Mother. Born July 25, 1934, in Elkhart, KS to the union of W. Ralph and Ina (Steele) Horner. The sun actually set on October 6, 2025, with a massive stroke, breath left her on October 9, 2025, in Tucson, AZ. She was never one to stay down. Life threw her many curve balls which she “caught” with grace. She epitomized “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” She was resilient, always finding the silver lining. She taught us to do so as well. She was a stay-at-home Mom who valued homemade anything! Baking was always from scratch! Meals prepared with love (and a dose of frustration at times when feeding 9 people) graced our table for every meal.

She loved the Lord ending every day, alone in the living room, Bible spread across her lap, reading and praying in the soft light of her lone lamp. Throughout her adult life, she was ever learning. Cake decorating classes spawned her proprietorship of Agapé Cake Decorating in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s. Her cakes graced many a wedding and events of all kinds in the Greenhorn Valley. She took classes and was also self-taught in oil painting, watercolor, wood burning, glass painting, machine quilting, knit, crochet, leatherwork, re-upholstering furniture, baking, candy making, gardening, and canning. She was a seamstress extraordinaire, making many outfits for her family.

She volunteered at the CO City Library, as choir director at Greenhorn Valley Baptist Church, and was involved in many singing groups in the Valley. She worked at the CO City PO, the school kitchen, for the Metro District, to name a few, and was a long-time member of Rye Home United Methodist Church.

She is predeceased by her parents, husband, Robert Carson Stanbro, beloved sister Dixie Wahlborg, a miscarried angel baby, and leaves four children to carry on her legacy: Kael (Chris) Parker, Patti (Wade) Pollard, Scot (Susan) Parker, Lorinda (Bob) Scheid, their children and grandchildren. Also, four stepchildren and their families: Robert, Cheryl, Vickie, and Randy. Brother Ray Horner, sister Starla (Dan) Harp, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service at Rye Home United Methodist Church, April 25, 2026, at 2 pm. Dessert and coffee reception (honoring her love of baking) immediately following in the Fellowship Hall.
