Martin and his family settled north of Rye off of what is now Old San Isabel Road. Gleason Canyon is named for this family.Martin was born in Canada in 1852, the fifth child of Cornelius and Margaret Bridget ‘Mary’ Hewitt Gleason. Both of his parents were born in Ireland and married there in 1839.

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood as the community turned out to enjoy Greenhorn Valley Days. Dawning as a nice, cool summer day the thick clouds helped control the temperature, which was especially appreciated after the recent heat.

Primary Ballots have No Big Surprises

There were very few contested races in the primary election which ended on June 25. On the Republican side of the ballot, one that drew the most interest was replacing Lauren Boebert, who moved to the 4th Congressional District.Jeff Hurd appears to have won the race with 4,193 votes.

The Oak Ridge Fire which began with a lightning strike on June 22, is only 5% contained as of Monday. The fire, also as of Monday, has burned 1,190 acres and has 535 personnel trying to put it out.Containment is not expected until at least July 24.The fire is burning 14.5 miles NW of Colorado City.
