Two weeks ago, District Attorney Jeff Chostner attended a Colorado City Metropolitan District Board of Directors meeting and fielded questions. I asked him why everyone, in every district, votes for all three county commissioners and all of the district 70 board candidates.

In the 1991 American Comedy Film, What About Bob, Bill Murray plays Bob, a very ill, but delightful, patient of Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfus). In the picture, Dreyfus is very uptight and tries to take his family on vacation after the publication of his psychological book entitled Baby Steps.

We spent some time Sunday afternoon with a couple of friends, playing cards and finding out what was going on with each other in the world. We dabbled for a few minutes with politics and Steve asked me if I had heard a Johnny Cash song called “The One on the Right is on the Left”. I hadn’t.

Elections are funny things. Three local elections, particularly, drew my interest. The first was the overwhelming defeat of Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder Gilbert “Bo” Ortiz in the Democratic primary. Since 2006, Ortiz has occupied the Clerk and Recorder’s office.

The Supreme Court, in a decision released on June 24, ruled 6-3 to uphold a Mississippi law that would ban abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The court further overturned the 1973 precedent set in Roe v. Wade that guaranteed the constitutional right to an abortion.

We had the privilege this last weekend of watching our two granddaughters be part of a ballet recital. Imagine little ballerinas, costumes in every color, from ages three thru high school. Kahlynn, age 9, danced on Saturday and Ellee, age 5, danced on Friday.

Through the generosity and love of Jim and Judy Butcher, Colorado City is on the map, with a fully approved, planned, and completed Disc Golf Course of national quality in honor of their son, Darren Butcher. Colorado City joins 20 other communities in Colorado that have disc golf courses.
