This Thursday and Saturday the RHS Tracksters spent the day at Dutch Clark Field for the League Track Meet and a final chance at qualifying for the State Track meet the following week. The Rye boys finished second overall and the girls were fifth.
For the girls running events, the 4 X 800m relay team of Jayde Van Oort, Taylor Mansfield, Tiffany Ambler, and Britney Slade took 1st place with a time of 10:28.99. The same team ran the 4 X 400m relay and took 1st place in 4:19.58. Both of these relay teams are currently ranked 7th in the state and will represent the Thunderbolts at the State Track Meet. Taylor and Jayde also ran the 800m and finished 2nd and 3rd respectively; Taylor ran a 2:25.38, and Jayde ran a 2:36.69. Taylor will be running the 800m at the State Meet. Britney Slade was in the 1600m run for the womens team and finished 2nd in 6:02.49. In the field events, Tiffany took 2nd in the high jump at 49, and Rylee Abert was 3rd with a leap of 49. Rylee also participated in the triple jump and placed 3rd, jumping 314. Katelyn Huddleston had a huge disappointment in the discus ring. She threw a distance that would have qualified her for state and scratched. She finished 7th in the shot put with a put of 298. Luckily, Katelyn will be back next year for another shot. The girls team ran so few events yet still managed to place 6th overall in the meet. Watch for the relay teams and Taylor in the 800m run at state this year. In State field events, Rylee and Tiffany will jump in the high jump.
The boys team had more events and placed 2nd overall at the League Meet. The 4 X 800 relay team of Rick Reidhead, Conner Pigg, Dalton Jordan, and Sam Ambler took 3rd place. The 4 X 400m team of Sam Ambler, Conner Pigg, Ty Van Oort, and Tony Vinci, and ran a 3:49.6 for a 2nd place finish. The 4 X 800m relay team will be running at State for the Thunderbolts. The 4 X 400 team was very close; however, a dropped baton cost them the few seconds they needed. Sprinters for RHS were Chris Elliott who took 9th in the 100m dash in 12.93 and 6th place in the 200m dash with a time if 26.21, and Austin Johnson who ran the 400m in 1:03.38 for an 11th place finish. Rick Reidhead had a great meet. He won the 1600m run in 5:01.66 and also won the 3200m run in 10:32.71. Rick will represent Rye in the 3200m at State his year. Paul Slade ran the 1600m in 5:41.84 for a 8th place finish. Nick Maroney ran the 3200m run in 11:01.13 for 5th place. In the field events, The Rye boys swept the high jump: Sam Ambler took 1st at 510, Brett Oliver took 2nd at 510, and Ty Zypancic was 3rd at 58. Dalton Jordan placed 2nd in the long jump at 188. In the triple jump Dalton came in 3rd at 408 and Brett was 7th with a mark of 335. Conner came in 5th in the discus, throwing 1032, and Chance was 7th with a toss of 1012. Ty will once again represent Rye in both the shot put and the discus, as he is one of the top contenders in the state in both events.
The State Track Meet will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at JEFFCO Stadium in Denver.
