This was a busy week for the RHS Track team, as they traveled to Swink for the Ray Headley Meet on Thursday and then went to Colorado Springs for the Lewis Palmer Invitational on Saturday. These were the final meets prior to the League Meet next weekend and a good opportunity to better times and distances.
In Swink, Cheyenne Bennett ran the 800m for the girls in 3:19.28. The 4 X 400m relay team of Taylor Mansfield, Britney Slade, Tiffany Ambler, and Jayde Van Oort took 3rd place in 4:25.68 minutes. The same girls ran the 4 X 800m relay and took 1st place in 10:47.55, slicing 11 seconds off their best time. Tiffany took 5th place in the high jump at 410. Rylee Abert finished 5th in the long jump at 14 and 7th in the triple jump at 307 ½.
For the boys team, Chris Elliott ran the 100m in 13.25 and the 200m in 26.37. In the 400m run, Brett Oliver finished in 1:02.1 and Austin Johnson ran a 1:04.85. Paul Slade ran the 800m in 2:30.8. Rick Reidhead took on the 1600m run with a time of 5:07.45 for a 4th place finish and the 3200m run in 11:10.91 for a 3rd place finish. In the boys relays, Ty Van Oort, Tony Vinci, Conner Pigg, and Sam Ambler took 6th place in the 4 X 400m in 3:54.92. The 4X 800m team, Rick Reidhead, Paul Slade, Ty Zupancic, and Sam Ambler also finished 6th in 9:23.46. Sam Ambler was 2nd in the high jump at 510. Ty Zupancic took 7th at 58 and Bret Oliver was 6th at 58. In the long Jump, Dalton Jordan jumped 181.5 for 7th place. Sam Ambler was 4th in the triple jump at 389. In field events, Chance Adair tossed the discus 1007. Ty Van Oort won the discus with a throw of 1414. Ty also won the shot put with a put of 476.
Two days later the RHS tracksters were on their way to Lewis Palmer for another go and many new PRs. Jayde Van Oort ran an 8th place in the 400m in 66.27, knocking three seconds off her best time. Taylor Mansfield shaved six seconds off her 800m time placing 2nd overall in 2:26.03. Britney Slade also ran 3 seconds faster in the 1600m run for 2nd place in 6:03.36. In the high jump, Tiffany jumped 48 for a PR and 7th place. Rylee was in 8th place with a 46 leap. Rylee came in 7th place in the triple jump marking in at a PR of 315.25. Katelyn Huddleston put the shot 258.5 and tossed the discus 798.
For the RHS boys team, Chris Elliott PRed in the 100m dash at 12.73. Austin Johnson PRed at 62.81, and Brett Oliver PRed at 61.22 in the 200m dash. Paul Slade also has a new PR of 2:27.85 in the 400m dash. In the 1600m run Rick
Reidhead finished in 5th place in 5:08.76, and Nick Maroney ran the 3200m run in 11:28.55 for 6thplce and a PR. The two boys relay teams, the 4 X 400m and the 4 X 800m each placed 4th overall. The 4 X 400 PRed in 3:52.85. In field events, Brett took 3rd place in the high jump and Ty Zupancic was 4th. Both jumped 58 which was a PR for Ty. Dalton placed 6th in the long jump at 181.5 and 3rd in the triple jump at 408. Sam Ambler jumped 388 for 7th place and Brett marked a 36 6.5 for 11th place. Ty Van Oort continued to excel in the throwing arena. He was 2nd in the shot put with a put of 48.5 and 1st in the discus, throwing it 1622.5.
After the two meets coach Tammy Van Oort exclaimed, It was really a rough week. Our whole team struggled. The heat was a huge factor and it really affected the distance kids. Britney really had a hard time. The bright spots were Taylor Mansfield and the girls 4 by 400m relay at Swink.
The next meet is the Santa Fe League Meet, back at home at Dutch Clark Field. It will be the final chance for the kids to place in the top eighteen in their events and qualify for the State Track Meet the following week in Denver.
