The starting lines are drawn and every runner is given their last set of instructions before they head off for a grueling non-stop 3-mile run. Every runner must pace themselves to get through the race and finish.

Rye’s X-Country 2A team began the year once again by attending the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede 5000-meter run at the Norris-Penrose Event Center on Aug. 23.

Last year’s team was focused on getting to State, this year is doing well at State competition. The Lady T-Bolts team came in second against eight other schools running in the 2A competition. Sophomore, Audrey Maroney came in first with a time of 21:35.20, a big improvement over last years’ time of 22:21 said Coach T.J. Blackhurst. During her State Competition run at Norris Penrose, Maroney, as a freshman, finished the 3-mile race in 20:49.7. Clarissa Peterson finished in 8th place at 24:09.70. It was Rebekah Moat’s first every 5K run with a PR of 27:41 and Christina Kirkland with her PR of 33:05. Lauren Maroney finished in 27:15.40 and Emily Peterson at 29:38.30.
