Perhaps the most positive thing about Rye High School football this year is the fact that the number of players on the team has over doubled. With injuries, last year in the 2018 season it became difficult to get enough healthy football players to give anyone a rest. This year nearly three dozen players will make up the team.
When asked about the rejuvenated numbers second year head coach Connor Pigg wasn’t sure.
“I am really not sure but I am really excited! I think there is a lot to attribute to this freshman class as we are a very freshmen heavy team,” shared Pigg.” Additionally, I think that our team leaders helped to recruit more athletes for the team.”
Pigg will be assisted by Clay Klipfel, Ty Van Oort, Gunny Pagnotta, and Dalton Jordan.
Pigg said the team offense and defense will not have many changes in the structure. The Thunderbolts will use primarily a 3-4 attack style defense.
