Michael Atencio (113 lb.) and Cole Miller (106 lb.) won gold medals at the 22 team Valley Classic tournament in Center last Saturday and Atencio continued his undefeated string, winning his 26th match without a loss.

As a team the Thunderbolts finished in a tie for 6th with Paonia with 87.5 points. Piedra Vista High from New Mexico won the tournament with 181.0 points.

Atencio, who is the top ranked wrestler in the 2A, 113 lb. class, won his first match by a fall, won his second by an 11-1 major decision, followed by a 16-0 technical fall, and then won the championship over Landen Mayberry of Hotchkiss with a pin at the 1:55 mark in the first period.

The road for 106 lb. Cole Miller to the gold medal began with a 49 second fall in his first match. Miller, who is ranked 4th in 2A in the 106 lb. weight class, pinned his second opponent in 2:53. Miller then scored a 13-0 major decision and, in the finals, beat Dale VanMatre of John Mall 7-4. Miller who missed some time with injuries has a 15-3 record.
