Estimates range between 1800-2000 people for the 14th Annual Customer Appreciation Picnic held at the Greenhorn Meadows Park last Sunday. The event hosted by True Value Hardware, Mountain Disposal, Valley Market and Canon National Bank is to thank the community for their support of the four local businesses.
This year there were several changes made which affected the flow positively. “We did things a little different,” said Tricia Proctor, True Value Hardware, “ instead of beginning to pull the pork at noon we started a little earlier and also made use of the brand new pavilion. It was a huge benefit for us.”
Lisa Klipfel, Mountain Disposal, agreed. “It certainly took a lot of pressure off of us,” she commented. “The flow was so much better.”
Thirty to forty-five people are needed to make the appreciation luncheon go well. “It’s a matter of lots of employees and some great friends,” said Proctor.
One of the highlights of the event is the horseshoe tournament and there are plans to expand that part of the day. Consideration is being given to a women’s tournament or a children’s tournament or expanding the field to cover more than one day.
Much has been added since the initial lunch served in the True Valley Hardware parking lot. Live music, activities for the kids, snow cones, and increased seating have been added over the years to make the appreciation dinner more of a social event than a thank you.
“We love the chance to see lots of local people,” said Proctor. “We so appreciate getting to see everyone and tell them thank you.”
