Fire Chief Steve Bennett sighted the extremely dry and dangerous conditions in the area when he explained that none of the local firefighters are involved in any of the fires raging out of control in the state at the moment.

“The extreme fire danger here has made it necessary to keep everyone home,”

Bennett told the View on Monday morning. “We have been asked, but our first priority is locally and then mutual aid agreements we have with other close fire districts.”

Mutual aid agreements include Huerfano County and Pueblo West. “If they call we will help in any way we can, but we don’t want to spread ourselves too thin,” said Bennett.

Bennett also indicated that he was aware of fires on highway 67 and Highway 115 that were extinguished over the weekend. He was not aware of any other fires closer than the fires in the Colorado Springs area.
