This past Saturday, the RHS Track team made the long trek to Elbert.
Overall the boys placed 4th and the girls placed 6th at the meet. For the girls team Tiffany Ambler placed 8th in the 400m dash with a time of 1:07.91. Jayde Van Oort finished in 1:11.54. Taylor Mansfield is back on the track and came in 5th in the 800m in 2:32.7. Cheyenne Bennett had a time of 3:18.21. In the 1600m Britney Slade ran a 6:06.3 for 6th place. The girls 4 X 400m relay team (Taylor, Jayde, Tiffany, and Britney) won first place in 4:30.9. They are now ranked 14th in the state. In the jumping events Rylee Abert was 4th in the high jump at 4 6, 4th in the long jump at 149.5, and 5th in the triple jump with a 318.5. Tiffany also placed 8th in the high jump with a mark of 4. Katelyn Huddleston came in 4th in the shot put with a put of 288, and she threw the discus 684.
The RHS boys also did well. Chris Elliot ran the 100m dash in 13.12 and the 200m in 26.7. Austin Johnson ran the 400m in 106.42, and the 800m in 2:29.15. Paul Slade also ran the 800m timing at 2:29.15. Rick Reidhead had a great day, winning the 3200m run in 11:15.19. Nick Maroney came in 4th in 11:58.07. In the 4 X 800m relay (Rick, Ty Zupancic, Conner Pigg and Sam Ambler) the team finished in 6th place. Brett Oliver was 4th in the high jump, clearing the bar at 58. Sam Ambler took 7th with a leap of 56. Tony Vinci jumped 97 in the long jump. In the triple jump Sam was 3rd with 38.07, and Dalton Jordan took 2nd marking at 39.5. Ty Van Oort continued his run of firsts in the shot put and the discus. Ty threw the discus 16011 and put the shot 497. Conner Pig had a huge PR in the shot put with a mark of 381 and a 4th place finish. Chance Adair also PRed with a put of 3211 ½ . Conner took 8th place in the discus, throwing 106 5 and Chance threw 101 4.
In order to qualify for the State Tournament in track and field, one must be in the top 18 in the state in their class. Currently for the girls team the 4 X400m meter relay team is in 13th place and Taylor Mansfield is in 12th place in the 800m run. Ryle Abert is in 6th in the high jump. Ty Van Oort is 1st in the discus and 2nd in the discus. Dalton Jordan is 5th in the triple jump, and Sam Ambler is 9th. Brett Oliver is 6th in the high jump. After the meet, Coach Van Oort explained, Elbert is a neat little meet for Rye to be in. The kids get to run against many small teams a lot like Rye, and they seem to enjoy it,
Next week the RHS tracksters are back at Dutch Clark Stadium for the Pueblo City Meet. The meet begins at Friday afternoon.
