Pam and Michael Westfall, Pueblo, were originally looking for an opportunity to open a snack stand in the Lake Isabel area but soon realized that due to the long winters in the area they wouldn’t have enough 'open for business' time. “We were traveling back to Pueblo after looking at a spot in San Isabel and saw the coffee cart in the Tru-Value Hardware parking lot. The business was closed and there was a ‘For Sale’ sign on the window. We thought this might be just the place for our business.”

On July 15, Colorado Mountain Dogs opened to the public. “We actually took over the business a month earlier,” said Pam. “It took us awhile to get everything cleaned up, repainted and repaired.”

Pam is the entire staff at the moment as the couple builds the business. Her husband has worked for 30 years at Kleinfelder Testing Laboritories in Pueblo. They have four grown children and four grandchildren. There oldest daughter Laura lives in Colorado Springs. Daughter Melissa, and sons Anthony and Eric all live in Pueblo County, as do Pam’s mother and father.

“We are third generation Puebloans,” says Pam. “Michael on the other hand has been all over the world, when he was in the service.” In fact Pam and Michael met when Michael was stationed at Fort Carson. We dated for about three years because Michael got sent so many places.” The couple has now been married over thirty years.

Colorado Mountain Dogs serves coffee and will be adding espresso this week, when a long-awaited part arrives. Batter Brother's Bakery of Pueblo supplies all of their breads. The hot dogs are 100% premium beef with no filler. They also have bagels, muffins, and breakfast sandwiches. Hardpack ice cream serves as a great dessert.

The business is open from 6:30a.m. until 5 p.m. seven days a week.

“I don’t think people are aware that we are here yet. We want to provide the area with quick, fresh fast food. Things are prepped daily. It’s all very, very fresh. We want to be a part of the community and hope to be serving Colorado Dogs for a long time.”
