The Spring Fire acreage is 107,967. Containment is 77%. (An infrared flight was not able to fly last night to record a current assessment.)
Current Situation: Yesterday and last night, crews completed the last section of containment in Division Z, thus, the entire perimeter of the southern portion of the Spring Fire is now contained.
There is minimal activity over the south end of the fire, with mostly creeping and smoldering behavior. There are still islands of unconsumed fuels; smoke and some flame may be visible if these areas burn. Fuels remain dry and susceptible to ignition outside of the burn perimeter. In the interior of Divison A, there is still some heat present in the Forbes subdivision. Firefighters continue checking for and mitigating hot spots.
Today, crews focus on mop-up, repair of fire suppression activities, chipping of slash, and backhaul of unneeded equipment. Firefighters are installing water bars in burned areas to help prevent erosion of soil. Crews will be patrolling and monitoring throughout the fire perimeter today. Please feel free to take a moment to speak with firefighters and ask questions.
