Kroger Co. on Monday announced an agreement to sell its 762 convenience stores, including Pueblo-based Loaf 'N Jug, to the operator of more than 2,600 convenience stores in Europe.

The new owner, England-based EG Group, plans to retain the Loaf 'N Jug name and other brands and establish its U.S. headquarters in Kroger's headquarters city of Cincinnati, the companies said in a joint statement.

The other brands are Turkey Hill, Kwik Shop, Tom Thumb and Quik Stop. Combined, the stores employ about 11,000 people in 18 states. They generated revenue of $4 billion and sold 1.2 billion gallons of fuel in the last fiscal year.

Loaf 'N Jug operates more than 170 stores in primarily Colorado and Wyoming.
