The Rye Woman’s Club was formed in 1932 and they joined the Federation of Woman’s Clubs in February of 1934. Every February after that they have celebrated with a birthday party. The first few years they celebrated with a dinner and invited their husbands. In later years they had the party in the afternoon and invited local business women for lunch, in hopes that they would consider joining. During the Frances Griffith administration they started a scholarship program, first with $150 scholarship which grew to $1500 for a Rye High School senior. They’ve assisted the boy scouts & the girl scouts, bought books for the libraries and sponsored a sophomore every year to go to the Hoby leadership seminar in Denver.
