Several hundred parents and students packed into Rye High School last Thursday night for the fall sports meeting, a required event sponsored by the high school and the Colorado High School Athletic Association.

Beth Burns, Rye High School Athletic Director, shared a number of things with the parents and students. Burns discussed concussion protocol, the extension of the classroom to the athletic field, grade expectations, and the fact that student athletes are held to a higher standard.

Burns also announced that the fees for participation have been reduced from $90 to $85. Second sport or second child fees were set at $80. In addition students on reduced or free lunches pay a half fee.

The meeting last week was required and if anyone was not in attendance they cannot participate until they have set up a meeting with Burns. In addition, a physical must be turned in and the student athlete must have health insurance before they can compete. The health insurance requirement is new this year.
