We are sending out 3,100 newspapers this week in an effort to attract subscribers. Depending where you live, you can receive the Greenhorn Valley View for between 72 cents and $1.10 per week, all year long.
What can you expect in the View, week after week? Well, let’s start with the news you will see.
The majority of our paper is dedicated to the people who live and work in the Rye-Colorado City areas, and we also explore the issues in Pueblo County that are relevant.
We have some statewide news.
For instance, since we live in a beautiful and vulnerable area, we do our best to let you know about wildfires in the entire state. Our history writer, Cheryl Johnson-Huban, is a published historian and brings life to the area’s history.
Like many small communities the schools are not only the lifeblood of the educational system but the activities in the schools are a reason for families to interact socially. We do our best to cover high school activities and publish academic honor lists from all three schools.
The View is probably the most sought-after source in Pueblo County for information on elections at all levels. The more local the election, the more coverage they tend to receive. We pride ourselves in letting you hear the opinions of both parties. An informed electorate is the best for the country.
We also keep our churches front and center. A weekly meditation written by a rotating member of the clergy is a rarity in newspapers. We unashamedly believe in God and believe his people are essential to a healthy community. This special edition is produced not only to attract readers, but to give our advertisers a larger audience. And that is why there are numerous ads this week. In nearly 14 years we have only had two complaints by readers stating that one of our advertisers wasn’t meeting a commitment.
I can’t express how grateful we are for our advertisers. Without them there would be no paper.
Subscriptions, basically, take care of postage and part of the printing. Everything else is made possible by the advertisers. Take some time to look through the ads. We are proud of our business friends and the products and services they offer.
When subscribers re-subscribe, they get an opportunity to give us feedback. One of my favorite columns every month is when my wife compiles these replies from our subscribers. It is a window into the soul of the people who read our paper. Over the years we have made many changes based on what our readers asked.
We do pride ourselves on printing the news as news, without our bias or opinion. But we don’t shirk from taking a stand either.
We, and the readers who take the time to write us, take that stand every week on page two.
We lean conservative, but the only way you would know that is on page two. Our writers do their best to give you an objective view through the other 15 pages of the paper. On page two we, and you, can express your opinion on just about anything.
State and local news may be dealt with in an editorial way, as well.
But, for the most part, you’ll have to find state and national news from other sources. Our niche is the Greenhorn Valley and Pueblo County.
My wife, Lori, and I have owned the paper nearly 14 years. We have made a lot of friends and more acquaintances than you can shake a stick at; and pretty much plan to keep doing this as long as we can.
We’ve been blessed with a lot of good writers who have come and gone, and a lot of subscribers who have come and stayed. We’d love to make you part of that number.
